There are several ways for the Australian citizens applying for Vietnam visa before departure. It takes 3-5 working days to receive an e-visa (normal processing) and 5-7 working days to get a visa approval letter (for a visa on arrival) or 5-7 working days for a visa applying at the Vietnam Embassy. 1. Apply for Vietnam e-visa

This is new pilot visa system which has just official launched in February 2017. To apply for an e-visa for Vietnam, the Australian citizens will submit a file of passport copy, recently taken photo and pay full non-refundable visa fee.

When applying for e-visa for Vietnam, please note that:

  • The visa is valid for up to 90 days and may be issued for single or multiple entries;
  • Payments for e-visa applications are non-refundable. If you apply for a Vietnam e-visa with us and your visa is NOT granted due to your travel history reasons, the visa service fee would be refunded totally except for the non-refundable 25 USD (for a single entry visa) or 50 USD (for a multiple entry visa) government fee paid to the Vietnam Immigration Department;
  • The applicants should check the information on e-visa again the passport carefully to make sure there is no mistake;
  • Normal e-visa processing usually takes 3–5 working days. However, it may take longer if the application requires additional verification by the Vietnam Immigration Department.
  • If your flight is already booked and departs in 1–2 days or within a few hours, we recommend choosing a faster service, such as 2 working days, 1 working day, or 4 working hours, to receive your e-visa in time for check-in.

How to apply for an emergency Vietnam e-visa for Australian citizens?

Step 1: Fill the visa application form, choose your preferred processing time, and upload the required documents, including your passport data page and portrait photo.
Step 2: Pay the visa fee using your credit cards or PayPal.
Step 3: Receive an e-visa in 3-5 working days (normal service), or maximum 1-2 working days (urgent service) or even 2-4 working hours (emergency service).

2. Apply Vietnam visa on arrival

Australian passport holders can apply Vietnam visa on arrival from anywhere outside of Vietnam. The visa will be issued at a Vietnam international airport when the traveller presents a printed visa approval letter and pay the stamping.

The approval letter is sent by email within 5–7 working days for normal service, or within 1–2 working hours for urgent service, depending on the option selected when submitting the online application form.

At present, visa on arrival is the easy way to get a Vietnam visa, however it is available for those traveling Vietnam by air only. Applying visa on arrival is much faster and cheaper than applying visa at the Vietnam Embassy or Consulate in Australia.

The Vietnam visa on arrival process has been changed since the Vietnamese government re-opened the borders for the tourists on March 15, 2022 after a two-year border closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic. At present, the visa on arrival is an altenative to the e-visa in case you need to enter Vietnam urgently but your e-visa application is pending or needs to amend at the last minutes, when you are about to board the plane to Vietnam. Moreover, visa on arrival is applicable for those who travel Vietnam by airplane via the international airports only. If you travel Vietnam via land border gates or sea port you should apply for a Vietnam e-visa instead;

4. What should you do if your e-visa application takes a long time?

A Vietnam e-visa for Australian citizens usually takes 3–5 working days to process. However, if your application contains incorrect photos or inaccurate personal information, the processing time may be longer. In this case you just need to wait a few more days after amending the visa application to get the results. If your e-visa status still shows “in processing” after 3–5 working days and your flight departure is coming soon, you can request urgent support to speed up the process. The passport-sized photo (portrait photo) should be identical, taken within the past 06 months. It must be in color, full face, front view with a solid, plain bright background. You should not crop a photo on the passport as it might be too old or not clear enough.
